IT’S BAD NEWS

New year, new post

Welcome to my first post of the new year.

Well, nothing new to report really, got a bit tipsy for new years eve, which was fun but since then been pretty ill which sucks.

In terms of new gadgets for 2012 again pretty quiet so far, I had been planning to pick up an Nvidia 560ti card but I’m not sure I can justify they expense when my GTX260 is still just about able to to push the polygons around on my screen. So a new graphics card purchase is on the back burner for then next couple of months. I did however want a bit more protection for my iPad 2 in the form of a folio case but being a bit cheap when it comes to accessories rather than the actual tech, i’ve picked one up on ebay for the princely sum of £12. The photos of the case do look rather snazzy being a black and yellow, however I’m still not sure where I’m going to put the Griffin stylus I have for the iPad, hopefully there will be somewhere I can clip it to the case safely. I’ll report back with some pictures after it arrives.

As for my agenda for 2012, well I hope to do some more photography, I was really lax during 2011 in this regard. A new 10 week studio photography course is starting at my local college, I’m just waiting to see if there are space free as it starts on the 16th of January which is really short notice.

On a gaming note I was playing a hell of a lot of SWTOR, I have reached level 40 as a Jedi Knight and I’ve been loving every minute of it, the story is great, and while it does have one or two annoyances these are far out wieghed by the positives. With more polishing over the next few months this will become an absolute gem of a game. You’ll notice the ‘was’ towards the beginning of that sentence, I finally picked up a copy of Dead Island along with LA Noire in the Steam Christmas/New Year sale so I have been slaying a large number of zombies over the past week or so. Dead Island is a great game and I must admit I haven’t really bothered to read any reviews on it. What I can say though from personal experience is that it’s just so much damn fun! It plays some what like Diablo in my opinion, which is a great thing. I had no idea it was actually an RPG rather than just a FPS and the random loot generation, complete area respawns and the checkpoint/safe area system in the game are very similar to the way Diablo did things, which is no bad thing. If you haven’t already I recomend you get it… now! there is something quite therapeutic about dismembering, decapitating, torching, electrocuting and exploding hoards of zombies.

Merry Geekmas and a Geeky New Year

Ok a bit late for the Christmas greetings but I was busy eating. I hope every one had a good Christmas though and hope you all have a good New Year too.

Here’s hoping that 2012 is full of gadgets, tech, sci-fi, fantasy and gaming fun!

Star Wars The Old Republic (update)

Well I got early access on the 13th of December with my, “Your saga begins…” email arriving just as I get home from work. Since then it’s been pretty much the only game I’ve played. Scratch that, it’s the only game I’ve played.

My collectors edition also arrived and the box is bloody huge! easily the biggest game box I’ve ever had. The statue is nice and solid but old Malgus is living in his box for now until I can find some desk space for him. I would have much preferred a Saetle Shan or Shae Vizla statue though.

Batman is sitting in his batcave in Arkham City all by himself because quite frankly I’m enjoying SWTOR too much. OK the server queues are a major pain in the ass, causing guild mates from the pre launch guild program to go off an play on different servers. I’ve picked up a couple of new guild members but quite frankly it feels like a guild of one at the moment but general chat is pretty friendly and there is no real problem picking up a party for Heroic level missions.

If any one is interested in joining what is at the moment a very quiet guild but wants to help shape a mature, friendly, chatty guild then look for Alliance Wolf Pack on the Hydian Way server (EU PvE server) my in game character name is Calus, an anagram of Lucas for those wondering ;) Send me a mail and I’ll get you added to the guild.

Star Wars The Old Republic release date changes

If you read my last post you will have noticed that I commented on the forum confusion regarding release dates. Well it turns out that the game is being released on the 15th in Europe. Here is a message, posted in the forums, from Stephen Reid (Senior online community manager)

Our sales and marketing teams are working closely with retailers in the US and Europe to ensure that copies of Star Wars: The Old Republic will be delivered in time for launch day.

In Europe, game copies will be available at retail starting on December 15, 2011. For those of you in the USA and Canada, game copies will be available at retail starting on December 20, 2011. For those of you who pre-ordered digital editions of the game from Origin.com, you will be emailed your Game Codes starting December 16, 2011.

As soon as you receive your Game Code (AKA ‘product registration code’), be sure to enter it on your account under Code Redemption, because as soon as you enter the code you will receive your digital entitlements in-game (i.e. digital items included with the game edition purchased). Remember, your billing cycle will not start until official game launch, on December 20, 2011 at 12:01am EST.

There will be no ‘grace period’ post launch in which those who are in Early Game Access will be able to continue to play the game. In order to continue playing past the Early Game Access period, you will need to enter a valid launch game code and payment method. Please read our FAQ for more information. We apologize for any previous messaging which may have led you to believe otherwise.

I also received an  e-mail from Game, this morning, stating that my CE edition will be sent to arrive on or just after the 15th.

Makes a change that Europeans get some love from the big companies in the States… Cheers Bioware, and EA.
